Is Rafiki’s Planet Watch Closing or Not?

I guess they won’t have to take down this sign!

Last week I reported that Rafiki’s Planet Watch at Disney’s Animal Kingdom might be closing. It turns out that it is, but there’s a catch. The last day for the meet and greets is September 29, and the last day for the entire area is October 20. Fortunately, the closure is not going to be permanent after all. It looks like it is going to be an extended refurbishment instead. The area is supposed to reopen next spring. Wildlife Express Train will reopen then as well.

This is great news. With Pandora – The World of Avatar always being so busy, Rafiki’s Planet Watch is a welcome respite. Kids love Affection Section (so do adults, because who doesn’t love a petting zoo), and there are great opportunities to learn about animals throughout the area. It’s nice to know that this will all be available again after the refurbishment.

I’ve heard unconfirmed reports that the track that Wildlife Express Train runs on is in need of repair, so that could be part of what work will be done. There’s no word yet on what other changes might be made. When there’s news, I’ll be sure to share.
