The Magic of Disney Animation is open at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. It completes Animation Courtyard, which was already brilliant! There are three questions that I’ve heard repeatedly since the building opened, so I thought that I would address them here.

Why No Pixar?

The Magic of Disney Animation was created to celebrate over 100 years of the Walt Disney Animation Studios. It’s designed to resemble the Roy E. Disney Animation Building in Burbank, California. The film making magic of Pixar happens in a different studio; Pixar Animation Studios in Emeryville, California. No slight towards Pixar is intended, it’s just a different branch of the Walt Disney Company.

Why Is the Sorcerer Hat Different?

I was a huge fan of the iconic Sorcerer Hat, which was removed from Disney’s Hollywood Studios in 2015. There’s a new hat on top of The Magic of Disney Animation building, but it’s not the same as the one that was removed. The hat that we see now is a replica of the one on top of the Roy E. Disney Animation Building. The entrance is designed to resemble it as well.

Can I Buy the Lithograph?

The short film Once Upon a Studio features countless Disney characters, coming together to take a picture for the 100th Anniversary of Walt Disney Animation. The film ends with the picture. It’s also framed in the hallway near Olaf Draws. The lithograph is not for sale, and it’s unlikely that it ever will be, at least not officially. It was given as a gift to Cast Members to celebrate the anniversary. If you really want a copy, I’ve seen several on eBay.
