Workers clean up downed trees near the Walt Disney World Swan

As I write this, it’s a beautiful Monday afternoon. The temperature is cooler, at least by Florida standards. The summer’s extreme humidity has moved out, and it’s much more comfortable. It’s hard to believe that a week ago we were bracing for a major hurricane!

We were fortunate in Central Florida. Although there was plenty of damage from Hurricane Milton, it could have been a lot worse. I’m thankful that it wasn’t!

I’m also thankful for all who helped. Hurricane Milton and any storm brings out the unsung heroes. I’m talking about the linemen who worked tirelessly to restore power and the tree workers who removed branches and cleared roads. Thanks also to people like the supermarket workers who put in extra hours to ensure that people were prepared, even though they needed to prepare themselves. Thanks to all the emergency workers and the medical workers. You are all heroes.

Thanks also to the Walt Disney World Cast Members, and the employees at the other area theme parks. It’s hard to get things cleaned up and running again, and that’s just what they did! I was at Epcot yesterday and if you didn’t know, you never would have guessed that the area had been hit by a major storm. Central Florida needs the theme parks and attractions to thrive, and it’s because of the hard work and dedication of many that things have returned to normal.

Have things been perfect? Of course not. But it could have taken several days to clean up, and that didn’t happen. So thanks to all who played a part, including those not mentioned here. The Orlando area is better because of you.
