Be Careful What You Believe!

It’s scary how quickly rumors can spread!

There’s a Walt Disney World rumor going around right now that started with a clickbait story. I’m not even going to say what the rumor is, because I don’t want anyone to look it up and the site to get more clicks. I can tell you this much, the person who owns the site is loving the controversy. I’ve seen several places where a version of the rumor is posted, and they all use the same site as the source. Each time it’s another click back to them.

I mention rumor and satire a lot here at Disney Over 50. Satire can be fun; the more ridiculous the better! It can also cause problems, especially when it’s written well and there are some decent AI pictures thrown in. Mouse Trap News is particularly good at coming up with fake stories that are believable. Everything on the site is satire, so don’t believe it!

The rumor that I’m referring to wasn’t from Mouse Trap News. It was meant to stir up controversy and cause problems. It quoted “a Disney rep”. If the rep is not willing to give their name, they are not a reliable source. Disney has fired Cast Members for much less, this would be proprietary information. Not only would this nameless person be found out and fired, they could also be sued for breaking a nondisclosure agreement.

Any news that you believe needs to be backed up by a reputable source. I recently added that the character Flotillas seem to have ended at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. While this wasn’t officially announced by Disney, my findings were backed up by the My Disney Experience App. And I stated that they could be back.

With the Internet, we have a world of information at our fingertips. Sadly, much of that information is wrong. Some websites will do all that they can to cause controversy and get clicks, because that will make them money. Thank you for your trust in me, and in Disney Over 50. It’s my goal to provide accurate information to anyone who happens to read it.
