Over the past few weeks, I’ve been adding some #ThrowbackThursday and #FlashbackFriday pictures to the Disney Over 50 Facebook and Instagram accounts. I love looking back. Many of the pictures that I’ve added are from rides or attractions that no longer exist. Some aren’t missed, like The Legend of Captain Jack Sparrow at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Others, like The Great Movie Ride, people do truly seem to miss. There has been a lot of change at Walt Disney World in the 14 years that my family and I have lived here. Some changes have been hits, while others have missed the mark. I thought it might be fun to write a short series on these hits and misses.
So far I have for hits: Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, Flotillas, Pandora – The World of Avatar, Epcot International Festival of the Arts, World Celebration, Journey of Water, Inspired by Moana, and TRON Lightcycle / Run. Misses: Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser, Harmonious, Disney Genie+, Good-to-Go Days, and The NBA Experience. Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway is a little bit hit and a little bit miss.
I have another hit today. I don’t know how long this one will be around, I hope that it’s for a long time. I’m talking about Disney Adventure Friends Cavalcade at the Magic Kingdom.
As you probably know, in 2020 Walt Disney World shut down for almost four months to keep people safe during the Covid-19 pandemic. When the theme parks reopened, things were different. Instead of having meet and greets and also a full parade, Disney ran Character Cavalcades. These gave guests a chance to see characters while remaining socially distant. The times for the Character Cavalcades weren’t posted so crowds didn’t gather.
It’s almost four years later and, for the most part, characters are back to normal. There are meet and greets in the theme parks. Disney Festival of Fantasy Parade runs daily, weather permitting. We do still have Flotillas at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, probably in part because they don’t take up any space where guests walk. At the Magic Kingdom, we have Disney Adventure Friends Cavalcade.
The days of cavalcades being popup are long gone. If you want to catch Disney Adventure Friends Cavalcade, just check the My Disney Experience App! If you aren’t sure where to look use the search feature. The route starts in Frontierland, continues through Liberty Square, and ends by heading down Main Street, U.S.A.
Disney Adventure Friends Cavalcade is short, it’s less than two minutes long. That’s part of what I like about it. You’ll see plenty of characters, but it doesn’t take a huge chunk out of your day.
Another thing that is nice about Disney Adventure Friends Cavalcade is that it’s adaptable. Disney can change to more recent and rare characters, giving fans a chance to see them. Where else can you see Bruno outside of a special event? Miguel from Coco is also part of the fun. It’s always great to see a favorite character, and when it’s a rare character that doesn’t greet elsewhere, it’s that much better!
I don’t know if Disney Adventure Friends Cavalcade is here to stay, but I hope it is. It’s a great break when you’re tired, and it’s easier than watching the full parade. I like to grab a spot in Frontierland near the beginning of the route, sit on the curb, and enjoy! For this series, Disney Adventure Friends Cavalcade fits nicely into the hit column for me.
