Sunday Savings Series: A Couple of Thoughts About Contests

Mickey is ready for his hug!

On Sundays I will often add contests as part of my Sunday Savings Series. I figure that winning something Disney-related or a vacation is the best way to save! I’d like to say a couple of things about contests.

First, if you enter a lot of contests, you might want to make a new email address. Use it just for contests. The sweepstakes that I add are from reputable places, but you might have to join a mailing list in order to enter. If you use an email address just for contests, everything will be in one place. Remember, you can always unsubscribe from a mailing list after you enter a sweepstakes. That should not affect the company contacting you if your name is drawn.

Second, I’ve seen a lot of “contests” on Facebook lately that can’t be trusted. These promise vacations, but don’t give any real details. When you click the link it immediately asks for your personal information, without letting you see the details of the contest. If you see something like this, check the actual page that is running the “sweepstakes”. When was the page created? How many posts does it have? How many “likes” does the page have? Also, do a quick search on your favorite search engine for the name of the company. If it only exists on Facebook, don’t trust it.

I know that the chances are low that someone will win a contest because I shared it on Disney Over 50. That said, if I don’t share it, there is no chance at all! I like to enter contests because it’s fun to dream about winning. If a contest interests you, enter it! Who knows, you just might win the grand prize.
