Sunday Savings Series: Giving

Share
There are many reputable organizations that need help this year

On most Sundays I like to share ways that you can save on your Walt Disney World vacation. I will also sometimes share with you ways that you can win something fun. Today, though, I’d like to go in a different direction. I’d like to encourage you to give.

When 2020 began no one had any idea of what this year would be like! Because of Coronavirus, more people than ever are hurting financially. (They’re hurting in other ways as well.) I’m not just talking about here in Central Florida, where the unemployment level is through the roof. People are hurting across the country and around the world.

That’s why I want you to think about giving. It does not matter how much or how little. Even a dollar will help. In the past I’ve given information on Cast Member Pantry and Cast Member Toy Box. Those are two ways that you can help people who have been affected by the layoffs at Walt Disney World.

I want to expand outside of this area, though. Drop off a toy at Toys for Tots, pick up an angel from an Angel Tree, or make a donation to your local food pantry. There are so many worthwhile organizations out there, no matter where you live. There are scams as well, so make sure it’s an organization that you trust.

It also does not need to be a financial donation. Clean out your pantry and donate the canned goods that are close to the expiration date. Go through your closet and donate things that you will never wear again. Drop off that old lamp that you never liked at a place like Goodwill or the Salvation Army. Your junk could be exactly what someone else is looking for.

We can also give of our time. There are so many places to volunteer. Help prepare meals for a food kitchen, or walk dogs at a local shelter. Sometimes giving of our time can be of more worth than donating money. And it can be just as rewarding.

A lot of people are looking at the Christmas Season as a way to turn things around this year. While the lights, decorations, and songs are nice, that’s not what the holidays should be all about. Giving of your time, talents, and treasures could be a gift that you give yourself; as you give to others. Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas a few weeks early, my friends.
