Wait Times and Lines

This sign doesn’t always tell the whole story…

I have heard a lot of complaints about Wait Times and also lines lately, so I thought that I would address these things here. People’s expectations have changed so much since the Walt Disney World theme parks reopened, but that doesn’t mean that capacity has been raised (like many people are saying). There are some things that you need to keep in mind.

I’ll start with Wait Times. The times that you see in the My Disney Experience App may not always be accurate right now. Often the actual time is less than what the app tells you. Although I have not heard this officially, I am convinced that part of the extra time is in case it is time to clean the ride vehicle. That can take a while. The posted times are longer because Disney is assuming that the vehicles will be cleaned during that time.

Now onto lines. You may have seen pictures of lines that look insanely long. I’ve added some myself. Just because a line looks long does not mean that it is. Disney is taking social distancing seriously, and having space between parties will make the lines longer. That doesn’t mean that it will take you longer to get to the front. Also, whenever possible, Disney is keeping the line outside for as long as they can. It’s been shown that people are safer outdoors than indoors right now. I’ve been in lines that looked ridiculously long, but once I entered the building I just walked through the normal queue and right up to the ride vehicle. It’s more common than you might think.

Remember, pictures don’t always tell the whole story. I’ve still found short Wait Times and manageable lines. Now that fall is officially here, hopefully we’ll get a break on the heat for a while. That will make waiting outside a little bit easier.
