Dates, Numbers, and Wordings

People will need to follow the rules!

Walt Disney World and Disneyland fans are trying to get a hint of when the parks could reopen. The sad fact is that there are no hints out there. Disney representatives have said time and time again that they are keeping an eye on things, and that no dates have yet been set.

That hasn’t stopped people from jumping to conclusions. It also hasn’t kept some from wording things to put their own take on the situation. I recently saw or read several stories about July. Some of the stories had headlines along the lines of “Walt Disney World Is Now Accepting Reservations for July!” The others worded it more along the lines of “Walt Disney World Is No Longer Accepting Reservations Before July”. These stories are both true, but they were spun differently, to get different reactions.

The thing about the examples that I just gave is that they are both meaningless headlines. Walt Disney World never stopped taking reservations for July, so the first one gives no new information. The second headline is more dire, but that doesn’t mean that the parks won’t be open earlier. When they do open, they will be limited in capacity. They can’t have a full summer crowd this year.

I try my best to give you accurate information. As far as reopenings go, I’m getting my information directly from Disney. When I remember, I’m also including links, so that you can check for yourself. There was a rumor that I saw yesterday that some people were quoting as fact. Nothing had been confirmed by Disney, so I’m not going to add it here. If and when it is confirmed, I will let you know immediately.

One thing that we do know for sure is that Disney is keeping an eye on two things. They are closely watching Shanghai Disneyland. The reopening there has gone smoothly so far.  They will also watch Disney Springs when some of the businesses there reopen in a few days. They will not only watch the numbers, they are also going to closely monitor guest behavior. I have seen many people (not on Disney Over 50, fortunately) claim that they will refuse to wear face masks once things reopen. It’s already been announced that face coverings will be required at Disney Springs. Disney CEO Bob Chapek also said that they will most likely be required at the parks when they reopen. If too many people don’t follow the rules that Disney sets in place, it is going to push things back for everyone.
