The Month of March, 2020

This was from the dedication of Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway on March 3

I know that I am not the only one who is glad to see the month of March, 2020 on its way out! This has been the strangest month of my life, and I’m sure that most people reading this would say the same thing. The month started with so much promise. March 3 was the media event for the dedication of Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway. The next day the ride officially opened, and it was the first day of the EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival as well. Here we are now, less than a month later. The parks are closed, vacations have been rescheduled, people are hoarding toilet paper, and we’re cleaning our cleaning product right after we buy them.

The fast changes have hit me on a personal level as well. My mom is a week older than my dad. The day before my mom’s birthday this year, I flew to Massachusetts, and on her birthday we had a huge party for both of my parents. There were four generations there! A week later, on my dad’s birthday, no one was even allowed to visit them. That’s how quickly things changed. We ended the month today with a multi-generational video chat. Everyone is safe and healthy, and it was good to see them. It still stinks that I have no idea when the next time that I’ll see my parents in person will be. The flights on the airlines that I normally take have all been canceled through the end of May.

I don’t know what April, or the next several months will look like. I don’t know how long it will take to reach the other side of this pandemic. I’m still glad that March is almost over. I know that changing months is just another day, but it feels like a new start. Here’s hoping for a better April for us all.
