United States Air Force Concert Band & Singing Sergeants at Disney Springs

The finaleĀ

Last night (October 17) I made a spur of the moment decision to head to Disney Springs to see the United States Air Force Concert Band & Singing Sergeants. I’m so glad that I did! I was moved by their performance. The show lasted for over an hour, and every moment was near perfection.

I know a bit about concert bands and a capella singing. I won’t go into my background, but I grew up around music. My hometown is known for musical excellence. I would not be writing about last night’s show if I wasn’t impressed. There are plenty of other things that I could be writing about at the moment.

I arrived a little bit late (as I said it was a spur of the moment decision) and all of the seats at the Marketplace Stage were taken. I was happy about that, I was hoping that there would be plenty of people out supporting the cause. I watched on the side for a while, then I moved to the back of the audience and stood there.

There were two groups who were performing, the Concert Band and the Singing Sergeants. They both performed alone, but then the two groups combined for parts of the show as well. Several of the members of the groups had family members in the audience. They were acknowledged in the middle of the show. It was nice to see the show of support.

There was a tribute to favorites from each president since the U.S. Air Force Concert Band formed. My favorite part, though, was when they played the anthems for the different branches of the military. The man who was narrating the evening (I didn’t catch his name) asked those who had served in each branch or who had a loved one who had served in that branch to stand. He then tried to shake each person’s hand.

Tonight the United States Air Force Concert Band & Singing Sergeants are scheduled to perform at Disney Springs once again, although by the time you read this it will probably be too late to make it. The weather also looks kind of iffy for tonight’s show, since all shows at the Marketplace Stage are weather permitting. The United States Air Force Concert Band & Singing Sergeants are currently on tour in Florida, so if you’re here you might want to take a look at their schedule. If you’ll be at Walt Disney World on Tuesday, November 12, Airmen of Note will be performing at Disney Springs. They’re a jazz ensemble, and it might be another fun show. It will start at 7:00 that evening, and it is once again a free performance.
