Trick or Treat!

Just one family in Celebration getting ready for Halloween!

There is one question that I hear each year around this time. “Where can we trick or treat while on a Walt Disney World vacation?” The obvious answer is that you can trick or treat at Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, but that always sells out early on Halloween. There is another option that you might not know about.

The town of Celebration loves to live up to its name. One of the biggest days of the year is Halloween. A very high percentage of the homes will hand out candy, and there are plenty of decorations. Trick or treating in Celebration makes me think of years gone by, there is a real community feel.

Street parking is free in Celebration. Make sure you take pictures of the street signs near where you park, because some of the back roads are a little bit tricky. If you drive, remember that there will be lots of kids out, so follow the speed limit. Also be aware that there are several roads with four way stops, and that pedestrians in the crosswalk have the right of way.

Since you will be trick or treating in a residential area, please be respectful of the residents. Not everyone will pass out candy, so if a house does not have a porch light on continue to the next one. Also, you will want to inspect the candy before you let the kids have it. I have never heard of there being a problem with the candy that people pass out in Celebration, but you can never be too safe.

Some people assume that they can take the kids to Disney Springs and trick or treat there. That is not the case. I can’t imagine what a madhouse that would be! There might be an occasional business that has a deal of some type or free stickers, but I wouldn’t count on it.

I had to add this one…

If you’re not worried about candy, you can go resort hopping on Halloween. Many of the Walt Disney World resorts will have pumpkins on display. They were carved by Cast Members, and you can vote for your favorite. The resorts also have free movies under the stars, and on Halloween you can expect to see a not-too-spooky classic. Halloween may not be as big a deal as Christmas at Walt Disney World, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t have a great time.
