At Walt Disney World in Florida there are literally thousands of hotel rooms on property, and they can fit just about every budget. More rooms are on the way. There is plenty of land for expansion in Florida, just the way that Walt Disney himself planned it.
The same cannot be said for Disneyland in California. There is not that much land, the entire resort is within walking distance of everything else! Because there isn’t much space, there are only three official Disneyland hotels. Unlike at Walt Disney World, there are no value choices.
The flagship hotel at Disneyland is Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa. It is a Disney Vacation Club property, and it is luxurious. It is also the most expensive of the three hotels. Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel has a fun surf theme. Disneyland Hotel is the original hotel with the Disney name on it, although there of course have been extensive renovations and expansions since it opened in 1955.
Just because there are only three Disneyland hotels does not mean that you will need to take out a second mortgage to afford a trip to Disneyland. There are several Good Neighbor Hotels that tend to be a lot more affordable. You will find everything from basic and inexpensive, to themed and lavish. You can find the Good Neighbor Hotels on the Disneyland website. Many of these hotels are within walking distance to Disneyland. The Disneyland website lets you know how close each hotel is, and if transportation is needed and provided.
One of the things that I love about Disneyland is how close everything is. At Walt Disney World, you can’t stay at an off property hotel and walk to the front gate. On my first trip to Disneyland as an adult, that is exactly what we did. It was convenient, and it allowed us to have a little bit of extra control over our vacation. We weren’t at the mercy of the buses, we just used our feet. A lot. If you’re thinking about checking out Disneyland, finding a convenient place to stay should not be a problem.
