Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy

The wraparound screen is gigantic

Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy is now open at Disney’s Hollywood Studios! On Wednesday, April 3, I was part of a media group that was hosted by Disney to experience the new attraction. I thought I would share a bit of information with everyone here at Disney Over 50.

Get your picture taken with Cruz!

You do not need to be a huge Cars fan to enjoy Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy. The story is simple to follow, and you will know what is going on even if you only have a passing knowledge of the characters.

DJ’s Ready! Set! Party Time!

The show itself is short, it only lasts about ten minutes. Still plan to spend some time in the area where it’s held. There’s a fun dance party that takes place several times throughout the day. You can also take a picture with Cruz Ramirez.

Keep going past all of this!

Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy isn’t hard to find, but people are going to miss it anyway. It’s past Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, in a building that used to house special events. The actual building is called Sunset Showcase. Because so many people don’t know there’s room for an attraction there, they will miss it.

It’s listed as Entertainment on the My Disney Experience App

If you want to know the Wait Time and you’re in a different part of the park, you’re kind of out of luck. It’s listed under Entertainment on the My Disney Experience App. Shows run continuously, like Muppet*Vision 3D. The seating area isn’t huge, but all seats do have a great view.

It’s Lightning McQueen!

The Lightning McQueen animatronic is awesome. If you’re willing to suspend your disbelief, you really will feel as if you’re watching a living car.

Inside the theater

I’ve heard a few complaints lately that there isn’t much to do at Disney’s Hollywood Studios that isn’t Star Wars related. (That is not the case at all, but that’s beside the point.) With Lightning McQueen’s Racing Academy, you can become a rookie racer instead of a Jedi. I think it’s a great addition to the park.
