Flying on the Disney Skyliner Again

If you’ve been reading things here for a while, you know that I love the Disney Skyliner. It’s more than just love, I’m obsessed with the new transportation system. Until recently I hadn’t had a chance to ride again since Walt Disney World reopened. It wasn’t because I hadn’t tried, it was because the Skyliner won’t run if there are storms, and this is summer in Florida. A couple of days ago the weather looked great, so my daughter and I decided that it was time to fly again.

It was not the beginning or the end of the day, which I know are busier. That said, everything seemed to be business as usual. There was no wait at all. Disney is not combining parties at the moment. It looked like the Cast Members were counting cars, because we were told each time the specific gondola to get in. The vehicles were all incredibly clean.

We rode all three lines there and back again. This was the first time that I rode during the summer months. I’ve ridden when it was hot, but not August hot. It was incredibly comfortable temperature-wise, with a nice breeze the whole time. We slowed down at one point for a few seconds (it didn’t totally stop) and without the cross airflow the heat did go up a bit. It wasn’t uncomfortable, and less than a minute later we were back at full speed.

I also think that the Cast Members at the stations were friendlier than in the past. They have never been not-friendly, but we had plenty of extra waves and were told repeatedly to have a nice flight. I’ve noticed that with Cast Members elsewhere as well. These people work at Walt Disney World because they love Disney as much as we do, and lately it shows. The missed it too.

The Disney Skyliner is a fast and fun way to get where you need to go. For those who don’t know, here’s a quick rundown. There are three lines. All three of them come together at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort. One line travels from Caribbean Beach to and from  Disney’s Hollywood Studios. One line travels from Caribbean Beach to and from Epcot, but it stops at Disney’s Riviera Resort along the way (you don’t have to get out there unless you want to). One line travels from Caribbean Beach to and from Disney’s Art of Animation Resort and Disney’s Pop Century Resort. Those two share a station, it’s on the lake between the two resorts. The whole setup might sound complicated, but it’s easy to figure out once you’re there. If you have questions, there are plenty of Cast Members on hand to help.

If you plan to ride the Disney Skyliner and maybe do some resort hopping, make sure you check the hours of operation. You should also check the forecast, because the Skyliner will not run if there is lightning in the area. You don’t want to end up stuck. Although I guess that there are worse things in the world than having to spend an extra hour or so at a Disney resort.

I’m glad that I was finally able to ride the Disney Skyliner again. I highly recommend taking a trip on it, even if you aren’t staying at one of the Disney Skyliner resorts. There is no cost to ride, and it might end up being your new favorite mode of Walt Disney World transportation. It is mine.
