Breaking news on May 21, 2020Update: the proposal has been accepted!
Universal Orlando Resort has submitted its proposal to the Orange Country Economic Recovery Task Force and Mayor Jerry Demings. The proposal includes opening to Team Members on June 1 and 2, to some Passholders on June 3 and 4, and to the general public on June 5. John Sprouls, Chief Administrative Officer, and Rich Costales, Executive Vice President of Resort Operations at Universal Orlando Resort were in charge of the presentation.
Temperature checks will continue for all guests and Team Members. Parking will continue to be staggered. Social distancing will be encouraged. There will be additional measures taken by Team Members to keep them safe. Face masks will be required by all, and if someone does not have a mask a disposable one will be given to him or her.
Capacity has been readjusted for the rides and attractions. Interactive play areas will be closed. Water and mist elements will be cut back or eliminated from rides. More virtual lines will be used, and single rider lines will be eliminated. Performers will not meet and greet with the audience after the shows.
The restaurants will use paper menus, which will then be thrown out. Mobile ordering will be encouraged. You can also pay through a service such as Google Pay or through the Universal Orlando App. Cash will not be eliminated, but will be discouraged.
There will be Team Member Ambassadors scattered throughout the parks to answer questions. There will be more hand sanitizing stations than before. Increased handwashing will also be encouraged.
Guests will be expected to follow the rules. Social distancing markers of six feet or more have already been added to the parks. Guests will be given a handout when entering the parks that will outline the new procedures and rules. There will also be extra signs at the rides to explain the policies.
An onsite inspection was conducted this morning by Jon Weiss, Director of Planning, Environmental and Development Services Department. His four member team went through Universal Orlando Resort. They found no significant concerns.
The Orange County Economic Recovery Task Force unanimously adopted the proposal. The proposal needs to be given the green light by Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings, and then Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
