The paint, the cel, and a lovely shadow of my hands and phone…Yesterday I told you about some of the free shows that you really should see when you check out the Epcot International Festival of the Arts. Today I would like to recommend an activity that has an upcharge. It’s called Ink & Paint Animation, and it’s interesting, informative, and fun for most ages.
With Ink & Paint Animation, you will learn what it used to take to create an animated film, back when things were done by hand. You will get a crash course on cel animation, but that is not all. You will also paint a cel yourself! Everything that you need will be supplied for you. (Be careful to not get the paint on your clothes.) Once the cel that you painted is dry, it is yours to take home. It truly is a unique souvenir. Each week a classic character will be painted.
Ink & Paint Animation is taught by Lynn Rippberger, and she is wonderful! She has a long history with Disney Animation, and she has worked on many of the classics. She also has a great teaching style, she explains everything thoroughly and is more than happy to answer questions. I took the speed version of Ink & Paint Animation when I covered the Festival of the Arts preview, and I enjoyed every moment.
If this sounds like something that you might be interested in, you will want to sign up ahead of time. Ink & Paint Animation is only held on Saturdays, and spots are limited.
