Walt Disney Studios has released their film schedule for the next several years. The list is by no means complete, and of course all dates and even films are subject to change. You can find the full list here.
There are a few things that I would like to point out. Since I’m a Star Wars fanatic, I’ll start there. We already knew that the Skywalker Saga would wrap up with The Rise of Skywalker on December 20 of this year. We also knew that a new trilogy is on the way. The dates for those three movies are December 16, 2022, December 20, 2024, and December 18, 2026. Wow, that seems like a long way off.
If you’ve been wondering if the promised sequels for Avatar will ever be released, Disney has you covered. Disney’s acquisition of Fox puts all four sequels on the schedule. They will be released December 17, 2021, December 22, 2023, December 19, 2025, and December 17, 2027. That means that from 2021 until 2027, there will be a new Star Wars or Avatar film to talk about at the Christmas dinner table.
Marvel fans will be thrilled with all that they have to look forward to! In addition to the movies that are to be released later this year, the list mentions “untitled Marvel” several times, all the way through 2022.
If you love the recent live action remakes of Disney classics, there are a few listed on the schedule. Aladdin will hit theaters on May 24 of this year, followed by The Lion King on July 19. Next year it will be Mulan on March 27. It looks like more ccould be on the way, but no details are given.
There is one more date that I would like to point out. On July 9, 2021, there is a listing for “untitled Indiana Jones”. While I’ve only heard rumors so far about the film, it does look like both Harrison Ford and Steven Spielberg are on board. It also looks like this will be the last time that Harrison Ford plays the famed archeologist.
While the schedule is filled with gaps and “untitled” films, it’s still nice to see such a list. It can get us excited about the future, and we have eight years to start making plans…
