Disney Cruise Line’s sixth vesselThe first D23 Expo in three years has wrapped up, and there were plenty of announcements made! Many were made during the Disney Parks and Experiences Panel on Sunday. It was hosted by Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products Chairman Josh D’Amaro. I chose to watch the panel from the D23 Expo Live Stage instead of trying to get a seat in the main theater. I’m glad I did, from what others have told me it was insane in there, and many people were turned away.
There was exciting news for Disney Cruise Line! Even though we’re still in the inaugural year for the Disney Wish, D’Amaro was looking ahead to the future. The next ship will be called the Disney Treasure, and will feature a statue of Aladdin, Jasmine, and Magic Carpet in the Grand Hall. The theme of the ship will be adventure. The Disney Treasure will sail in 2024. You can watch the name reveal video below.
Also announced were new destinations. These include Australia, New Zealand, and the South Pacific! These new experiences will sail starting in October 2023. You can see the dates, itineraries, and prices here.
We also learned more about Lighthouse Point, Disney Cruise Line’s second destination in The Bahamas. The new stop will use 90 percent solar energy. No target date was given. There’s been some confusion on whether or not this means the end of Castaway Cay. It doesn’t, Disney has a 99 year lease on its current private island. With a growing fleet, a second private destination is a great idea.
While this was not announced at the D23 Expo, there’s one more bit of Disney Cruise Line news that I want to share. According to Disney Parks Blog, Miami is now the permanent port for the Disney Dream.
