April Fools’ Day, for the most part, is all in good fun. Unless, of course, you’re a Disney fan. Even then, it should be fun, as long as you read to the end of the article.
In these days of Social Media, April Fools’ Day will often live on. I’ve seen posts written on April 1 pop up in my newsfeed six months later! Promises of characters and new rides seem believable in October. What I wouldn’t have fallen for on April Fools’ Day could make me wonder if I read it months later.
When reading news, always read to the bottom. This isn’t just for April 1, it’s a good way to verify information in general. Also, look for the source. If there isn’t a link to a credible Disney account, don’t trust it.
Remember, too, that there are sites out there that just want your clicks. This isn’t just on April Fools’ Day, it’s all year long. They add sensational and misleading headlines, hoping to grab your attention. Don’t give it to them.
There are also satire sites that people fall for. One of the most famous is Mouse Trap News, but there are others. It’s easy to believe satire when you don’t check the source.
Here at Disney Over 50, I always try to give you accurate information. I’ll add a link to the official source when I have one. Sometimes it’s a press release without a link, but I’ll still try to guide you in the right direction. If something is a rumor, I’ll tell you. I’ll also add my own two cents from time to time. Sometimes I get things wrong, but I always try to give you the best information possible.
And since it’s April 1 as I write this, your shoe is untied…
