Kings Dominion is a theme park in Doswell, Virginia, just north of Richmond. If you’ve driven on I-95, you’ve driven right past it! I know Kings Dominion well, I worked there one summer many, many moons ago. It had been years since I visited Kings Dominion, since my last visit the park was purchased by Six Flags. When the opportunity arose to visit Kings Dominion’s new-ish holiday event, Winterfest, I was excited!
Winterfest is not a party like Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party or Disney Jollywood Nights. Instead, it’s a transformation. Kings Dominion turns into a Christmas Village. It’s along the same lines as Christmas Town at Busch Gardens.
With Winterfest, the Eiffel Tower (the park’s icon) is turned into a giant Christmas tree! That alone is worth seeing. There are millions of lights, giving the park a festive feel. There is extra live entertainment throughout the park. There is merch for sale, as well as holiday treats.
Some, but not all, of the rides that Kings Dominion is famous for are open. Remember, though, that this is Virginia, so the temperature is cold once the sun goes down!
I’m glad that I had the opportunity to visit Winterfest, and walk the streets of Kings Dominion once again. So much has changed since my last visit! Kings Dominion right now is open only for Winterfest, it is not open during the day. Winterfest takes place on select nights through January 4, 2025. If you’re in the area, I recommend checking Winterfest out! Buy your tickets here.
