The Mandalorian and Grogu to Hit the Big Screen

Imagine that face of the big screen!

A lot of the recent Star Wars storytelling has fallen flat for many fans. I’ll admit that I’m one of those fans. While I enjoyed The Force Awakens, the final two films in the wrap-up trilogy would never have drawn me in. I’m not the only one who feels this way, which is most likely why some of the plans for more Star Wars movies have been pushed back or canceled.

There is an exception to all of this. He’s a tiny green toddler who first appeared on our Disney+ television screens in 2019. I’m, of course talking about Grogu, and his adopted dad, The Mandalorian.

Grogu, or The Child as he was originally called, instantly won the hearts of millions. He was a well-kept secret, which was why there weren’t The Child dolls under Christmas trees in 2019. People who aren’t even Star Wars fans fell in love with “Baby Yoda”. No matter what you call him, you can’t argue that he’s become a cultural phenomenon.

We’ve recently learned that we will soon see The Mandalorian and Grogu on the big screen! Here is what has been released so far, from StarWars.com.

The Mandalorian and Grogu are embarking on a new adventure — to movie theaters.

Directed by Jon Favreau, and produced by Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, and Dave Filoni, The Mandalorian & Grogu will go into production in 2024.

“I have loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created,” said Favreau. “The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting.”

“Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have ushered into Star Wars two new and beloved characters, and this new story is a perfect fit for the big screen,” added Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm.

The Mandalorian & Grogu will lead Lucasfilm’s ongoing feature-development slate, including films helmed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, James Mangold, and Dave Filoni, who is also currently developing Ahsoka Season 2, among those in the works.
