We’ve known for a while that MagicBand+ is coming to Disneyland Resort. We now know that it will be sometime this fall, according to Disney Parks Blog. Remember, fall runs until December 20, so the release could still be a couple of months away.
At the D23 Expo, I talked with a Cast Member about MagicBand+ and Disneyland Resort. She told me that the same band will work on both coasts. You will not have to purchase a new one to use at Disneyland. A regular MagicBand still will not work on the West Coast.
There will be some differences between using a MagicBand+ at Disneyland Resort. Unlike at Walt Disney World, you will not be able to unlock your room with MagicBand+. You will not be able to charge things to your room. This could change in the future. Since there are only three official Disney hotels, it’s not that big of a surprise.
What will you be able to do with MagicBand+ at Disneyland Resort? For me, the most important thing is park entrance. As long as it is linked in your account, you won’t have to keep pulling out your phone for entrance. With Disneyland and Disney California Adventure a three minute walk apart, this is going to be so convenient.
If you purchase Disney Genie+ or Individual Lightning Lane, you’ll be happy to have a MagicBand+. You will be able to scan in for your time instead of scanning on your phone. You will also be able to scan for your PhotoPass photos. PhotoPass is included with Disney Genie+ at Disneyland. In my opinion, Disney Genie+ is totally worth the cost at Disneyland, at least for one or two days of your vacation.
There will also be enhancements to World of Color and Fantasmic!. The fun at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge will expand as well with the interactive game Star Wars: Batuu Bounty Hunters.
You can see a quick overview of MagicBand+ at Disneyland Resort in the video below. It might help you to decide whether or not you’ll want one for your next Disneyland vacation.
