Lions may be called “the king of the jungle”, but sadly the number of lions in the wild is diminishing. Disney Conservation Fund wants to change that, and they need your help to do it! Between July 19 and 25, Disney Conservation Fund will donate $2 for every person who rides Kilimanjaro Safaris at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. The money will be donated to the Lion Recovery Fund through the Wildlife Conservation Network. Disney will donate up to $350,000 to help lions in the wild.
If the dates for the campaign sound familiar, that is because the newest version of The Lion King will open on July 19. Disney’s Animal Kingdom is also currently celebrating the 25th anniversary of the original animated classic.
This isn’t the only way that you can help the lions. Special edition plush that feature Nala and Simba are for sale at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Disney Springs. You can learn more about Disney’s efforts to Protect the Pride here. If you’re at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, remember that Kilimanjaro Safaris is different each time you ride it, so you might want to ride twice.
