Interactive queues give guests a chance to do something while waiting in a line. There is another type of queue at Walt Disney World that you will see more often. These are themed queues. They are designed to make you truly feel as if you are a part of the ride or attraction.
In my opinion, themed queues are just as much fun as interactive queues. When you’re walking through the line for Star Tours – The Adventures Continue, for example, you will feel like you’re in a terminal. You might have to use your imagination a little bit, but you should be willing to suspend disbelief while at Walt Disney World. I love the two scanning robots, pay attention to them because they’re both really funny. I’m also fascinated by the window where you can see shadows of others walking by. If you watch long enough you might see one of my favorite Hidden Mickeys. Here’s a hint, “beep, boop, beep”.
Another one of my favorite themed queues is for Peter Pan’s Flight at the Magic Kingdom. It was updated not all that long ago, and now you will feel as if you are walking through the Darling’s house. Since the line for the ride is usually pretty long pay attention to the details. It’s a lot of fun.
Arguably the best themed queue at Walt Disney World is for Avatar Flight of Passage. If you’re going standby there’s a good chance that you will be in that line for a couple of hours, so allow yourself to get caught up in the theme. In the outdoor part you’ll enjoy an incredible view. Inside you’ll wind through caves and then experience the lab. Those who have FastPass+ will not walk through the lab, so that’s a small consolation for having to wait. Have your camera or phone ready, because you’ll want to take plenty of pictures.
