Since the Disney Park Pass system was announced, Annual Passholders have had a legitimate gripe. There has been plenty of availability for the Theme Park Tickets Guests category, and also for Disney Resort Guests. The spots for Annual Passholders, though, were gone in a flash. The reason why I wasn’t at a park on July 11 is because the spots were all gone by 6:45am the morning that Passholders could make reservations. The pictures that I’m adding here are screenshots for all three categories for August. I’ve also added a screenshot for Annual Passholders for July, all of the spots are gone! You can see the problem. Fortunately, Disney can finally see the problem as well. It’s too late for me to be able to visit on opening day, but it is a step in the right direction.
Walt Disney World has announced that Annual Passholders are going to be able to have some of those spots that were previously reserved for other guests. They are not increasing capacity, instead they are just shifting around the spots that are available. Passholders will be able to make reservations for days that were currently full for them, starting on July 16. The reservations can be for any park except for Disney’s Hollywood Studios, which is also the only park that has reached capacity so far. The new dates will be for July and August.
Passholders are being informed through email, which they are sending out in batches. The email also includes information on how to let Disney know what you want to do as far as canceling or extending is concerned. That is something that many Passholders have been confused about, so it’s nice that Disney is making it easier for us.
Another temporary perk is being added to help calm down upset Passholders. We will be eligible for a discount of up to 30% at select merchandise locations, through August 14. The normal discount is 20%.
The final new bit of information is that Annual Passholders who do not cancel have been promised an additional month for free. That will be added on to their passes sometime in the next few weeks. We already knew that the extra month was supposed to happen, but it’s nice to see that the issue was addressed with a timeframe.
