The original version of Test Track officially opened at Epcot in 1998. It replaced World of Motion. That version was replaced in 2012. We now have a third version of Test Track, which many of us are calling Test Track 3.0. I had a chance to ride during the Annual Passholder Previews. Here are a few spoiler-free thoughts.

I’ll start with my overall general impression. I love the new design and theme! I’ll always be a fan of the original version, but a good part of that is probably nostalgia. While I didn’t mind the theme for Test Track 2.0, I like this one a lot better. It’s fun! There’s so much to take in that you’ll miss a lot. That just makes me want to ride again.

In my opinion, the queue is kind of boring. There are different vehicles on display and such. Since I was there for an Annual Passholder Preview, we didn’t spend a lot of time in the queue. But how many times will you be able to read the same information if there’s a 120 minute wait? I don’t know if there will be more to do in the Play Disney App. I hope so.

A warning for the kids and those who like to be creative. You don’t design a concept car anymore. That part is gone.

The actual ride track is the same as always. You’ll sit three to a row, six to a car. You’ll go through several scenes, twists, and turns, and then hit the open road. It’s just as thrilling as always. There is a Single Rider line, and they will use it.

The soundtrack for the narration of Test Track 3.0 is very loud at the beginning. It seemed to level off as the ride went on. The new scenes and experiences are fantastic. There are fun nods to World of Motion, as well as the other versions of Test Track. I’m going to add a YouTube video at the bottom that includes many of these nods. Don’t watch it if you are trying to avoid spoilers!

When you exit, you’ll see cars on display. There’s also a really cool mural. If you want to take pictures, this is a great spot. The exit area seemed a bit empty, I expect that more will be added.

Overall, I think that Test Track 3.0 is an improvement over 2.0. I’ve loved all three versions of the ride, but it’s nice to have something fresh and new. I think that getting rid of the ability to design your concept car will help move things along a bit. And I’m not going to miss the feeling that we’re actually part of Tron. This is a great update! That said, Bill and Sherry from Test Track 1.0 will always hold a special place in my heart…
