A Small Dose of Unexpected Magic

Star-Lord at Prehistoric Plants

Sometimes a Walt Disney World vacation doesn’t feel all that magical. Whether it’s the lines, the prices, or the weather, it’s easy to complain. That is why I like to look for unexpected magic. I thought I’d share a recent experience.

I was at Epcot during the Flower & Garden Festival. (There’s plenty of magic to be found there, but I digress.) I was near the Prehistoric Plants Garden, which isn’t far from Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. Star-Lord greets in the area, but I had never timed it right. I hoped that my luck had finally changed.

Not long after I arrived, so did Star-Lord! He’s a roaming character, which means he doesn’t have a specific line. Instead of staying in one spot, he walked over to Prehistoric Plants. There was a young boy there, maybe seven years old. The kid didn’t seem to recognize Star-Lord, but he loved dinosaurs! They talked for maybe five minutes, with both pointing out their favorites. They also shared dinosaur knowledge.

That young boy may not remember the details of a queue, or how many rides they went on during their vacation. I’m sure, though, that his Star-Lord encounter is one that he will remember!

It also didn’t take time from other guests who wanted a picture with Star-Lord. Once people realized he was out, he politely ended the conversation and moved on.

The more time I spend at Walt Disney World, the more I realize that it’s the little things like this that I enjoy the most. A child’s day was made, and I’m sure that Star-Lord enjoyed the encounter as well. Small doses of magic are still everywhere at Walt Disney World. We just need to keep our eyes open.
