Minion Land is the newest area at Universal Orlando Resort, and it is now open! It’s located in Universal Studios Florida. The front of the park has been rethemed with all things Minions. You don’t need to know much about the little yellow guys to enjoy the land. Aside from knowing that they’re troublemakers, I’m not overly familiar with the Minions, but I still like the new theme.
There are two rides in Minion Land. The first is Despicable Me Minion Mayhem. This is not a new ride, it’s been in the front of Universal Studios Florida for years. The other ride is Illumination’s Villain-Con Minion Blast. (You can read my review of the new ride here.) Both rides are kid friendly.
If you’re hungry, you’ll find both full meals and snacks. Illumination’s Minion Cafe is a counter service location that serves full meals. It features Despica-Bowls, Handhelds, and Off the Flames. If it’s a snack that you want try Pop-A-Nana (it has banana flavored popcorn), Freeze Ray Pops, or Bake My Day.
Bake My Day is also a merchandise location that’s perfect for those who love pink. There’s more shopping at Evil Stuff and Super Silly Stuff. If you’re a Minion fan, you’re sure to find a few must-have souvenirs.
Illumination Theater is a meet and greet location. There are several characters who appear, so you might want to stop by more than once. There are also a couple of great picture spots in Minion Land without characters.
Don’t expect the same degree of immersion in Minion Land that you’ll find in Pandora, Galaxy’s Edge, Toy Story Land, or the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. You won’t feel as if you’ve been transported to a new world. Still, it’s cute, and there is a lot to see. Don’t hurry through Minion Land, because there are plenty of surprises.
