Is Super Bowl Sunday less crowded at Walt Disney World? My daughter and I try to go to one of the Disney parks each year during the big game. Here’s our 2023 Epcot experience.
We arrived at Epcot around 3:00 on Sunday, February 12. It was a cool day and very windy. We had hoped to watch Trevor Carlton’s 3:45 show, but it had been taken off the schedule. That was okay, we walked around for a little while and then headed to Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. We were about an hour past our return time, but the Cast Members let us on. The line was long, but Cosmic Rewind is always worth the wait. There were several people wearing Eagles jerseys but I didn’t notice one Chiefs jersey all day.
After that, we decided to grab an early dinner. We went to Regal Eagle Smokehouse. It wasn’t crowded. On the way there we did notice that there seemed to be a large number of people heading toward the exit.
We caught the 5:30 Disney on Broadway show. It featured Ashley Brown and Michael James Scott. There were plenty of seats when we arrived at 5:00, but by 5:30 the America Gardens Theatre had mostly filled up. I don’t think it reached capacity.
Around the time that the Super Bowl was to start we wandered to the front of Epcot to see Beacons of Magic on Spaceship Earth. The front of the park wasn’t crowded, but it wasn’t empty either.
There are a couple of special PhotoPass opportunities after dark at Epcot right now. These were fun. The photo where a Cast Member creates a rainbow was one of the most entertaining photo opportunities ever! It’s nice when you see Cast Members who love their jobs.
Wait Times weren’t bad at all. We decided ahead of time that we weren’t going to wait longer than 20 minutes for anything. That ruled out Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure and Test Track, the lowest they went was 35 minutes. (That’s not a bad wait for either ride! As I write this, Test Track has a 60 minute wait and Remy’s is 100 minutes.) The longest line we waited in was for Soarin’, which was posted as 15 minutes. I think we probably waited close to 25. We walked onto several rides, including Spaceship Earth.
About ten minutes before it was to start we found a spot for Harmonious. I know that a lot of people don’t like Harmonious but I think it’s a beautiful show. I’m going to miss it. We watched near the front so that we could leave as soon as it was over. We made it home for the very end of the game.
All in all, I think that Epcot was the right park to visit on Super Bowl Sunday. We got a lot in, and the crowd was smaller than on a normal Sunday night. I wouldn’t say that it was empty, but there was a difference. Congratulations to the Kansas City Chiefs on their win! My husband said it was a great game, even though the wrong Pennsylvania team was in it.
