We’ve been celebrating Walt Disney World’s 50th Anniversary for over a year, and in 2023 we’ll celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the Walt Disney Company! October 16 was the last anniversary in double digits, it was on October 16, 1923, that Disney Brothers Cartoon Studios was formed. The name was later changed to Walt Disney Studio, at Roy Disney’s suggestion. Walt was the artist, while Roy was the financial guy.

My husband and I recently watched the movie Walt Before Mickey. I know that a lot of dramatic license was taken, but there was some good insight as well. Many of us tend to think of Walt Disney as a brilliant dreamer, but the movie showed that there were struggles and failures along the way. It was a reminder that he was human after all.

To me, Walt Disney has always been an inspiration. He changed the face of movies, the face of theme parks, even the face of the state of Florida! I would not live here if it wasn’t for Walt Disney World, and I know a lot of people who would say the same thing. The more I know about Roy Disney, the more I admire him as well. His dedication of Walt Disney World so close to the end of his own life was beautiful. He wanted to see his brother’s dream come true.

I look forward to what the Walt Disney Company has planned for Disney100. There’s so much history that it would take 100 years to cover it all! D23 has a great article on the history of the company, you can read it here. It’s long, but it’s worth the read.

Thank you, Walt and Roy Disney, for what you started 99 years ago. You’ve changed my life, and the lives of millions of others. I’m proud to call myself a fan.
