Walt Disney World will celebrate its 50th Anniversary on October 1, and there are nods to the occasion everywhere! Since 50 is the Golden Anniversary, many of these new additions are gold in color. You’ll find extras in all four theme parks, as well as at Disney Springs and the resorts. Celebratory banners are everywhere! Often The World’s Most Magical Celebration is mentioned with the extras, which is the name of the party. It will begin on October 1 and last for 18 months.
The Magic Kingdom is even more festive than usual right now! You’ll find that the celebration begins before you enter the park. Mickey and Minnie topiaries are next to a cake, and there are additional decorations in front of the Train Station.
Inside Cinderella Castle is all dressed up, but that isn’t all that you’ll find. There are Cinderella Pumpkin Carriage decorations on some of the lamp poles. You’ll also find golden statues in several areas.
Speaking of the golden statues, those are the Disney Fab 50 Character Collection. Five iconic characters are featured in all four theme parks. They’re fun to look for, and some are not easy to find! If you’re having a hard time locating one ask a Cast Member. I think that they like these as much as the Guests do.
Even Disney transportation is part of the fun. There are special 50th Anniversary overlays on some buses, the Disney Skyliner, and even the monorail. Each time I see one I feel like it’s an extra piece of magic.
I sometimes wonder what the 50th Anniversary would have been like in a world without COVID. Still, I enjoy what we do have. Eighteen months is a long time, and there are rumors that things will expand during the party. (We might see Tron and Cosmic Rewind at some point, but don’t quote me.) Right now, I’m just happy with the extra decorations.
