Since Walt Disney World reopened, there has been one question that many Annual Passholders had that Disney was not addressing. Those of us who have Platinum Plus Passes have been paying for water parks that remain closed. Guests who have Water Park only passes have also had questions. People with ticket add-ons that are for closed venues also had concerns. Disney has finally addressed the issue.
I’m going to add the information directly from Disney below. You can also read it for yourself here. The basics are that a partial refund will be issued for the days when we haven’t been able to use the tickets. As I said elsewhere, one of the two water parks (we don’t know which one) is currently scheduled to reopen on March 7, 2021. If you are a Water Park or Water Park After 2 Passholder, your pass will automatically be extended. You also have the option to cancel.
If it is a ticket add-on, you have three options. You can modify your ticket, cancel your ticket, or use your ticket. If you have an unused ticket that is good only for a water park, you can cancel it, or use it before December 31, 2021. You can read this information from the source here.
Here’s what Disney wrote about the situation. I’ll start with the Annual Passholder information.
Water Parks Reopening Policies
While Disney’s Blizzard Beach water park and Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon water park remain closed at this time, pending government approvals, we currently plan to reopen one of the 2 Disney water parks on March 7, 2021. We may adjust our proposed reopening date, and if that happens, we will let Guests know what to expect in a future update. Since Guests can’t visit the Water Parks right now, we will be automatically issuing Platinum Plus and Premier Annual Passholders with water park access a partial refund.
- Platinum Plus Passholders: If you are a Platinum Plus Passholder, this refund amount is based on the price difference between the price you paid for your Platinum Plus Pass and the price of a Platinum Annual Pass prorated by the number of days left on your pass prior to water park reopening, according to the details as to when partial refunds apply and how they are calculated.
- Premier Passholders: If you are a Premier Passholder, you will receive a pro-rated refund based on the difference between a Walt Disney World Platinum Plus pass compared to the price of a Platinum pass prorated by the number of days left on your pass prior to Water Park reopening (excluding any additional extensions you may be eligible for due to the continued closure of Disneyland Resort) according to the details as to when partial refunds apply and how they are calculated.
- Passholders on the Monthly Payment Program: For those on the Annual Pass monthly payment program, please note you will receive a lump sum refund as noted above; however, your ongoing monthly payment will not change.
Refunds will be automatically processed for your pass(es). You do not need to take any additional action. Refunds to the original form of payment can be expected by late October through early November 2020. If the original form of payment is not available, you should expect a check by late November.
Your pass will still include admission to Disney’s Oak Trail Golf Course, and if Disney water parks and ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex reopen before your pass expires, you can visit them too.
Note: Platinum Plus renewals are not available at this time, but existing Platinum Plus Passholders will have the ability to select from a variety of passes once it’s time for their pass renewal.
And now for the add-ons and one-day tickets:
Water Parks
While Disney’s Blizzard Beach water park and Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon water park remain closed at this time, pending government approvals, we currently plan to reopen one of the two Disney water parks on March 7, 2021.
Like the other areas of Walt Disney World Resort, we will welcome back Guests and Cast Members to our water parks in a responsible way, with a plan focused on health and well-being. We will provide more details on our phased reopening plan, including a decision on the specific water park that will be reopening first, at a later time. This reopening date may change and if it does, we will let Guests know what to expect in a future update.
We realize that some Guests with existing tickets and some Annual Passholders are impacted by this update. We are offering options to Guests with an existing Premier Passport, Platinum Plus Pass, Water Parks Annual Pass, Water Parks After 2 Annual Pass or tickets that include the Park Hopper Plus Option or Water Park & Sports Option.
Ticket Add-Ons
If you have a ticket that includes the Park Hopper Plus Option or Water Park & Sports Option, we are offering options including:
- Ticket Modification: Tickets, as well as Disney Resort hotel packages with tickets, may be modified. To discuss your options, please call the Disney Reservation Center at (407) W-DISNEY or (407) 934-7639, or contact your travel professional.
- Ticket Cancellation: If you do not want to use your ticket, you also have the option of cancelling your ticket or package. To discuss your options, please call the Disney Reservation Center at (407) 566-4985, or contact your travel professional.
- Ticket Usage: You may use your current date-based ticket with the existing add-on options at other experiences available during your visit.
At this time, Guests can purchase new tickets that include the Park Hopper Plus Option or Water Park & Sports Option for admission March 7 and later. We will resume sales of Water Parks Annual Passes and 1-Day Water Park Tickets at a later date.

To choose this option, please call (407) 939-2732. If you are unable to visit by December 31, 2021, you may apply the value of a wholly unused ticket toward the purchase of a ticket for a future date.
Water Park Annual Passes
Water Parks and Water Parks After 2 Annual Passes will be automatically extended for the period in which both water parks were closed. As an alternative, water park Passholders may instead choose to cancel their pass. To choose this option, please call (407) 939-2732.
Platinum Plus and Premier Annual Passholders
We will automatically be issuing our Platinum Plus and Premier Annual Passholders with water park access a partial refund. Find out more information on how this refund is calculated.
We will continue to monitor the constantly changing environment and its impact on the state of Florida as we find the right time to welcome back even more of our Guests and Cast Members.
