I don’t know about anyone else, but I am tired of talking about coronavirus and what we might or might not be able to expect at Walt Disney World in the near future. I thought that instead, I’d add a memory that’s special to me. I might do this from time to time when I want to escape from what is going on around us. This doesn’t mean that I won’t keep you up to date, but we all need a break from time to time.
The memory that I’d like to share today has to do with Test Track. This happened several years ago. It was a beautiful spring day. My daughter and I were in the standby line, and there was a mother and son immediately behind us. We struck up a conversation with the mother, and learned that they were on Spring Break from a town near where I grew up. Her son remained silent, but not because he was shy. It was obvious that this eight year old was scared to ride.
My daughter and I asked the boy a few questions. We could tell that he wanted to ride, but he was letting his anxiety get the better of him. We asked about what other rides they had been on, and which were his favorites. We soon learned that he was a lot like I am. He loved rides that go fast, but did not like drops. Test Track is the perfect ride for someone like us.
We didn’t end up in the same car as the two of them, but I did look back when they got into the car behind us. He still looked terrified. I wondered briefly if sitting in the front was going to make the boy’s anxiety worse. I hoped that he would allow himself to enjoy the ride.
When we got off, my daughter and I waited for the mother and son. He was glad that we did, because he couldn’t wait to tell us how much he loved it! He then wanted to play all of the games that are in the departing area. His mother thanked us for helping to ease his fears. As we walked away, we all had smiles on our faces. My daughter and I agreed that we had helped to make magic for that little boy. It was a nice feeling.
