The past couple of weeks have been a bit rough in my household. Everyone is physically fine, but we’ve been hit with annoying things such as our dishwasher dying, the weather has had us on edge, and some annoyances that I won’t go into detail about. There have also been some mind games lately that I wish we could live without, but they are smack dab in our faces. Nothing earth shattering is going on, but there has been some extra stress that we all could do without.
As I’ve been trying to take deep breaths and not lose my mind, I’ve been thinking a lot about planning a Walt Disney World vacation. The number one complaint that I hear is that planning is so stressful! The top stresses seem to be FastPass+ and dining reservations, both of which were designed to make your vacation easier, not more stressful.
In some cases, we can control our stress levels. While I can’t do anything about my broken dishwasher without spending a lot of money, there is something that I can do if I don’t get a FastPass+ reservation for Slinky Dog Dash. There are actually three things that I can do about that. I can keep checking, and hope that something comes open. I can wait in the Standby Line once I arrive. I can skip the ride altogether and do something else. What I shouldn’t do is stress and complain about something that I have no control over.
No matter what you do at Walt Disney World, you are going to have a great time; if you let yourself. All too often we complain about the things that are going wrong, instead of being happy about all of the things that are going right. Try to look for the silver lining in each storm cloud on your vacation. Enjoy what you are doing, instead of being upset about what you aren’t doing. A vacation is supposed to be relaxing, not stressful.
