Recently I told you about two ways that you will be able to celebrate Star Wars Day at home if you have Disney+. The first is a new documentary series called Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian. The second is that May 4 will be the day that the final episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars is released on the streaming service. There is now a third way that you can celebrate this important holiday, all from the comfort of your living room.
I have heard multiple reports that Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker will make its debut on Disney+ on May 4. Although I have not officially seen the press release, I have heard it from enough reliable sources that I do not doubt that it is true. This is months in advance of when many people expected the last movie in the Skywalker Saga to be available to stream.
Like many movies, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker got a bit of a raw deal when Coronavirus hit. Although the movie was released in the middle of December, it was not even close to being through its first run when the theaters closed down. It was then released early for digital purchase, giving fans a chance to watch at home. The digital release comes with lots of bonus content.
While the Walt Disney Company has been losing money with theaters and theme parks closed, Disney+ has been a bright spot. The streaming service has reached well over 50 million subscribers. For many people (myself included), watching Disney+ has been a great escape during these trying times.
For those who don’t know, May 4 has been considered Star Wars Day for years. It’s a play on words, “May the fourth be with you”. Some people follow it with Revenge of the Fifth, but that doesn’t have the same popularity.
