Will the crowds be insane starting on June 24?Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opened on May 31 at Disneyland Park. Reservations have been required so far, and the system has worked really well. Starting on June 24 reservations are no longer offered, but that does not mean that it will be a free for all. Disney does have a plan.
A Virtual Queue system is going to be implemented at Disneyland, as needed. It should be simple to use. Download the Disneyland App, and then you can request a spot in the queue. You need to be in the park in order to do it. When you can enter the land, you will receive a notification, or you can just keep checking the app. You will have two hours to get there, so you won’t have to drop what you are doing. If you don’t have the app, you can request a spot at select FASTPASS locations. Once you’re in the land there will be no time limit.
Starting on June 24 if you plan to visit Savi’s Workshop or Oga’s Cantina when you’re visiting Batuu, you will need a reservation. Those can be made online the same day, beginning at 7:00 the morning of.
What does this mean for when Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opens at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on August 29? There is a very good chance that the same system will be implemented here. People have been worried that there will be a repeat of the insanity that took place when Pandora opened two years ago. If a Virtual Queue is used here, it will allow guests a chance to enjoy the land without it being wall to wall people.
If they use the same system at Walt Disney World, it will give those who are staying on property a distinct advantage. Remember, Extra, Extra Magic Hours will be offered from September 1 through November 2, allowing resort guests a chance to enter at 6:00am. You have to be in the park to get a spot in the virtual queue, so people staying on property will have the opportunity to get a spot before anyone else. Who needs sleep?
It’s going to be interesting to see how the new system works. I have a feeling that it will be successful. People have been worried for a long time about how bad the crowds are going to be for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. This could be a solution that will work.
