My Oogie Boogie Bash Review

Oogie Boogie Bash is the Halloween Party that is held at Disney California Adventure. It is a separate ticketed event, and those tickets always go fast! I bought tickets for my daughter and myself for the first night in 2022, and I am so glad that I did. Oogie Boogie Bash was worth every cent, it is one of the best special ticketed events that I’ve attended on either coast.

The obvious question is how does Oogie Boogie Bash compare to Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party? I love Mickey’s Party, but Oogie Boogie Bash wins this contest for me. Mickey’s Boo-to-You Parade is better, and there are no fireworks at Oogie Boogie Bash. No fireworks honestly wasn’t a drawback, because we didn’t need to find a good viewing spot half an hour early.

What made Oogie Boogie Bash so much fun for me was the Treat Trails. These weren’t just a stop to get a few pieces of candy, they were experiences! You’d walk through the line and get treats two or three times. Suddenly, there was a villain, who interacted with everyone as they went through the line. Plenty of people stopped to take selfies with the villain behind them. These weren’t all your normal villains, they included Mother Gothel, Ernesto de la Cruz, and Madam Mim. My favorite was Sid from Toy Story, the Cast Member was on point! After seeing the villain there were more treats. The trails were so much fun, and there were plenty of them.

Disneyland Resort also won in terms of the treats that were passed out. I thought we received a lot of candy at the Magic Kingdom, but that was nothing compared to what we received at Oogie Boogie Bash! The treats were also better. There were Snickers and Starburst, like normal. There were also Goldfish Pretzels, Rice Krispie Treats, and Craisins! Some stations had baby carrots, while others had grapes or apple slices. It was a hot evening, and a pack of cold grapes was very refreshing.

There were plenty of extra characters besides those on the Treat Trails. We decided to skip them because the lines were long. Five hours fly by!

Villains Grove was a lot of fun. Redwood Creek Challenge Trail changes to become a place where you would expect some of the villains to hang out. The lighting and the effects were worth waiting in line. There were no actual villains, but there didn’t need to be.

The live show Mickey’s Trick or Treat was a great break in the middle of the evening. It was in the Disney Junior theater, so I wrongly thought it was just for the littlest ones. The show was hilarious. The kids all had a great time, but the adults did as well. Thanks to Minnie, I’ll never think of bats the same way again.

While I did prefer Mickey’s Boo-to-You Parade, that isn’t saying anything against Frightfully Fun Parade. My comment is just a nod to how good Boo-to-You is. Frightfully Fun ran twice. We found a spot for the second one near the start of the route. It was a great parade, with lots of characters and catchy music. It just wasn’t Boo-to-You.

The crowd was manageable. We didn’t ride all that much, but we did walk onto WEB SLINGERS. That ride often has a wait of over an hour! The longest line of the night was for Guardians of the Galaxy – Monsters After Dark. That line was a couple of hours long, and we didn’t want to give up that much of our time. We thought we’d ride later during our trip (it isn’t just during Oogie Boogie Bash) but it didn’t work out. Maybe next year.

This is just a quick overview of Oogie Boogie Bash. It was an incredible special event, one that I highly recommend. I’m already wondering if there is a way to attend twice next year. Oogie Boogie Bash was brilliant.
