Recently, my family and I were looking for something a bit different to do for a few hours. We’ve driven by Dinosaur World in Plant City countless times, but we never visited. We then heard the magical words that we were looking for, “dog friendly.” We decided to give Dinosaur World a try. I’m so glad that we did!
The concept for Dinosaur World is simple. There are hundreds of life sized dinosaurs throughout the park. You can wander through at your own speed and learn more about them. There are plaques along the way to tell you more about the various species. There is also information on many of the plants that are at Dinosaur World. There are some fun picture opportunities along the way.
Dinosaur World was definitely created with kids in mind. There are kid-themed extra activities that you can add onto your ticket, such as Fossil Dig and Dino Gem Excavation.
There’s a playground and a seasonal splash pad that don’t cost extra. You can also purchase tickets to ride the train. We didn’t add any of the extras, we just wanted to walk around.
One of the things that I liked about Dinosaur World was the pace. You can take as much or as little time as you want. Since a day at Walt Disney World revolves around hurrying from one thing to the next, it was nice to just take our time and explore.
There is a lot of shade at Dinosaur World, which keeps things a little bit cooler. Before we went I had heard that there are a lot of mosquitoes, but the only ones that I saw were in the restroom.
The Gift Shop at Dinosaur World is what you’ll enter and exit through. I was surprised by how reasonable the prices are! There is also an indoor museum. It takes you back in time, and there are some animatronic dinosaurs.
Of course the main reason we decided to visit Dinosaur World was because dogs on leashes are allowed everywhere, including inside. Our dog Yoda loves to explore new things, and he had a great time! He wasn’t too interested in the dinosaurs, but he did enjoy the different types of plants along the way. If you’re worried that you’ll be overrun by dogs, don’t be. We only saw two other dogs when we were there.
The next time we visit Dinosaur World (and there will be a next time) we plan to bring a picnic with us. There’s a nice shaded picnic area, and Dinosaur World encourages people to bring coolers with them.
If you’re looking for something different and relaxing for a day off from the Walt Disney World theme parks, consider Dinosaur World. Tickets are reasonably priced, and it’s a nice break from the craziness that you’ll find at many Central Florida attractions. Dinosaur World is located at 5145 Harvey Tew Road, Plant City, FL 33565. It’s right off of I-4, you’ve seen it if you’ve driven to or from Tampa. (There are also locations in Kentucky and Texas.) Dinosaur World is open daily from 9:00 until 5:00. Check it out!
