Several months ago it was announced that the theme parks in California had to jump over numerous hurdles in order to reopen. Those hurdles were all 100 feet high. Today (March 5) things have changed. The theme parks in California could reopen as early as April 1, and that’s no joke!
When the parks in California reopen, it will be at 15 percent capacity. Indoor rides will not be included, and at first only California residents will be allowed to visit. Still, this news is a step in the right direction.
Just because Disneyland could be allowed to reopen on April 1 does not mean that Disneyland will reopen on April 1. Disneyland President Ken Potrock stated the following on Twitter:
We are encouraged that theme parks now have a path toward reopening this spring, getting thousands of people back to work and greatly helping neighboring businesses and our entire community. With responsible Disney safety protocols already implemented around the world, we can’t wait to welcome our guests back and look forward to sharing an opening date soon.
There is no word on how this will affect the Touch of Disney event that is taking place at Disney California Adventure. If I were to guess, I’d say that the special ticketed event will go on as planned. Remember, Walt Disney World was the last of the Orlando area theme parks to reopen by a month. Disney is not going to rush into anything.
As soon as an official reopening date is announced, I’ll let you know. Until then, I’m happy for the Cast Members who will soon receive calls to come back to work.
