A Little Bit of Downtime

Disney’s Grand Floridian is such a beautiful resort!

Last Friday night my daughter and I were hosted for an incredible one night stay at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort. I had never stayed there before, and it was as wonderful as I had hoped it would be! That’s not really what I want to talk about now, though.

Instead, I’d like to talk about how my priorities have changed a bit as I’ve grown older. My favorite part of my mini-staycation was sitting on the balcony, watching the monorails pass. It was so relaxing! I could see Cinderella Castle on the far right, but it wasn’t a full view. Sitting on the balcony, enjoying coffee from the Keurig, was near perfection for me.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the theme parks. I am so happy that they are open once again, even if the crowd level has picked up some. Still, I could picture spending a week at a resort and never visiting one of the theme parks.

You could say that I live near the theme parks, so I don’t have to visit them if staying at a resort. I’ll agree with that. I go to the parks all the time. I would never tell you to not visit the theme parks if this is your only trip to Walt Disney World for a while. That’s not what I’m saying at all.

What I am trying to say is that we all need to take the time to smell the roses. If possible, add a couple of resort days into your Walt Disney World vacation. Plan to just explore a bit, or even stay in your room and take in the scenery. That will give you a chance to rest and recharge. A Walt Disney World vacation can be hectic, and a little bit of downtime will help you to better enjoy the rest of your trip.
