Think we’ll EVER see this movie?

I’ll start with the news that no one wants to hear. It looks like the release of the live action version of Mulan has been postponed indefinitely. The movie was originally supposed to hit theaters on July 24, but with no theaters open to hit the released date was pushed back to August 12. While the information hasn’t been updated on the Walt Disney Studios release schedule (at least not that I could find) it was announced on ABC’s Good Morning America. Disney is the parent company of ABC, and that’s good enough of a source for me.

Also, the upcoming and unnamed Star Wars films have all been pushed back a year. The new schedule for the world’s greatest franchise (yes, I’m biased) is December 22, 2023, December 19, 2025, and December 17, 2027. There is also a new schedule for the sequels to Avatar. The new release dates are December 16, 2022, December 20, 2024, December 18, 2026, and December 22, 2028.

In other movie theater news, the largest theater chain in the world, AMC Theaters, hopes to have most of its theaters reopened by early August. There has been no word on what movies they plan to run, since so many release dates have been pushed back.

While we can’t see movies in regular theaters right now, pop-up drive-in theaters have been growing in popularity. These theaters often play classics that many in the “over 50” category grew up on or watched as young adults. I’ve told you before that SeaWorld Orlando has been hosting a drive-in on weekends. I just learned of another local choice. It’s called Drive-In Movie Nights Kissimmee. The first night will be August 7, and the cost will be $30 per car. Movies will run Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. You can learn more about Drive-In Movie Nights Kissimmee here.
