I’ve been trying to do my best to keep everything here up to date. I run this site by myself (my daughter helps with pictures), and I try to get you the best information possible. I have a list of current closures at the top of this site, and I update it whenever there is important new information. I also do the same on the Disney Over 50 Facebook page. When I update things, I will change the time, so you will know if there is anything new. At least I try to remember to change the time, I’m only human.
That said, there are a couple of changes that I would like to mention here. The first has to do with the non-Disney owned restaurants. Some have been laying off staff. Splitsville and Homecomin’ are two that have done just that. These businesses are not laying people off because they don’t want to pay them, it is so they will still have money coming in. Laying staff off will allow them to file for unemployment. It is not the perfect solution, but these restaurants are fighting for their lives. They can’t afford to pay their staff when they don’t have any business.
Another thing that I want to mention is Drawn to Life by Cirque du Soleil. Today was supposed to be the first day of previews. Instead, Cirque du Soleil has laid off over 95% of its staff worldwide. That is not saying that they won’t be back once this is over, but it does leave the future of the show somewhat in question. As I write this, Drawn to Life is still on the Walt Disney World website, so here’s hoping that the show will go on.
The 2020 Star Wars Rival Run Weekend has been canceled. It was supposed to be held April 16-19. That is not saying that Walt Disney World will still be closed that weekend. Since large crowds should be avoided for a while, there is no way that they should run a race. It would just be too many people. I am also not saying that the parks will be open again by then, it’s still an unknown. I am not going to speculate.
There is a glimmer of good news. Shanghai Disneyland is slowly starting to reopen. The park is still closed, but Shanghai Disneyland Resort is opening bit by bit. On the other side of the world, the magic is starting to return. Here’s hoping that we will soon be able to say the same thing.
