I love Walt Disney World during the holidays. It’s my favorite time of year. While there is magic around every corner, each park has something that truly tugs at my heart. I thought it would be fun to share these with you over the next few days.
At the Magic Kingdom, my favorite bit of holiday magic isn’t really an event or a show that is put on nightly. Instead, it is visiting the park for the first time during the Christmas Season. One night the park is all dressed up for the final Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, but the moment that ends things start to change. Some people say that the Magic Kingdom goes from Halloween to Christmas overnight, but that is not quite the case. It takes two nights to change most everything on Main Street, U.S.A. (not including the castle). Often the first night the garlands and other similar decorations will go up. The next night, it’s the tree.
When I hear that the tree at the Magic Kingdom is there, I always try my best to visit the park right away. When I went this year, I didn’t even leave Main Street. I walked around, took plenty of pictures, and added them on Facebook and Instagram so that the Disney Over 50 community could share in my joy.
As much as I love seeing Cinderella Castle covered with “ice” at night, seeing the Magic Kingdom during the day for the first time each season is my highlight. I don’t care that Christmas at the Magic Kingdom starts in early November and ends in early January. I love living in a place where I can experience the holiday magic for two months each year. If it were up to me, I’d extend it through the rest of January.
