Some people have been a bit wary about riding the Disney Skyliner since the “incident” on October 5, 2019. While I can understand why some people have decided to stay away, I’d like to offer a bit of reassurance.
Disney has done everything that they can to make sure that the Disney Skyliner is safe. While the incident on October 5 left many people uncomfortable and nervous for three hours, there were no serious injuries because of what happened. Things could have been a lot worse.
I’ve watched the Disney Skyliner several times since it reopened. (I haven’t had the time to ride again, but I intend to as soon as my schedule lightens up.) One thing that I have noticed is that it tends to stop from time to time. If you are on the Skyliner and this happens, there is no reason to panic. Each time that I have seen it stop it starts running again in a minute or two.
The most important thing to remember if you are on the Skyliner and it stops is to stay calm. A stopped Skyliner does not mean that something is wrong. The delay is only temporary. The longest delay that I’ve heard about since the Skyliner reopened was only a few minutes.
No matter where you are at Walt Disney World, you need to have your cell phone with you. You might be at “the most magical place on Earth”, but that does not mean that every moment will be perfect. If you’re on the Disney Skyliner and it stops for longer than you think it should have stopped for, having your phone easily accessible will allow you to contact someone.
One more thing about the Disney Skyliner. There are some people who really shouldn’t ride. If someone in your party is overly scared of heights, or if there is someone with anxiety issues, maybe you should skip it. If sitting in a gondola for an extended period of time might affect a health condition such as high blood pressure, don’t chance it. There’s a rest room at the Caribbean Resort Skyliner hub station and also near the other stations, make sure the kids use them before getting in line. Use your common sense before you board.
The Disney Skyliner is a great addition to the current transportation options at Walt Disney World. We probably will never officially learn what happened on October 5, but that’s okay. The important thing is that no one was hurt, and that Disney then took extra precautions to lessen the chances of it happening again.
