Permanent Closures and Postponements

It looks like Rivers of Light will not be returning

I’m on the fence about reporting what I’m about to say as fact, because a lot of it comes from internal Disney memos that have been leaked. So instead of saying that this is 100% accurate, I’ll just tell you what the information is, and then we’ll just see how everything plays out. I do believe that it’s true.

Primeval Whirl will not reopen

The first has to do with three attractions that did not reopen when Walt Disney World welcomed guests once again. All three are expected to remain closed permanently. According to the memo, at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Primeval Whirl and Rivers of Light will not reopen. At the Magic Kingdom, Stitch’s Great Escape will remain closed. All three are listed as “temporarily unavailable” or “temporarily closed” on the Walt Disney World website.

Stitch is still around, but not the attraction that bears his name

Both Stitch’s Great Escape and Primeval Whirl were considered seasonal attractions, so it is not really surprising that they won’t reopen with such limited capacity. Rivers of Light is a bit of a surprise. My thought on this is that Disney’s Animal Kingdom is going to keep closing early (currently the park closes at 6:00pm), so there’s no reason for a nighttime show.

Spaceship Earth is staying as-is for now

Over at EPCOT, two projects have been postponed. They haven’t officially been canceled, but that doesn’t mean anything. The update for Spaceship Earth is off the table, at least for now. Also postponed indefinitely is Cherry Tree Lane in World Showcase. I’ve heard that both have been removed from the EPCOT Forever attraction, I’ll confirm that when I head to the park on Monday. A general rule of thumb is that if a project had not been started before the closure, it’s probably on hold for now.

This project seems to be moving ahead

Star Wars: Galactic Starcruiser (the Star Wars hotel) is going ahead as planned. Reportedly additional plans for work have recently been filed. It’s still listed on the Walt Disney World website as opening in 2021, although I won’t be surprised to see that pushed back until we no longer need to keep six feet apart.

Signs for Rodeo Roundup BBQ at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Also, it looks like Roundup Rodeo BBQ at Disney’s Hollywood Studios is moving ahead as planned. While I haven’t heard any mention of the upcoming restaurant in the past few weeks, there were posters for it on a construction wall at Disney’s Hollywood Studios yesterday. I haven’t been able to find any official updated information, but seeing the posters was good enough for me.
