We may not know when the Disney Parks will reopen here in the United States, but we do have some news about Shanghai Disneyland. The park is set to open with limited capacity on May 11! (Parts of Shanghai Disney Resort have been open for several weeks, but not the park.) The announcement was made on May 5, so there are only a few days to get ready. It is thought that the reopening of Shanghai Disneyland is a test ground for reopening here in the U.S. Here are the highlights from the press release.

There will be limited attendance when the park in Shanghai reopens. Tickets for a specific date must be purchased in advance. Annual Passholders will need to make a reservation.

Social distancing will be maintained. This includes in the queues, on rides, in restaurants, and in stores. Face masks will be required to be worn by all guests, except when dining. There will also be temperature screenings and “the use of the government-issued Shanghai Health QR code”. This is a contact detection system.

There will be “increased sanitization the disinfection measures”. This includes at the entrances and exits of the rides and attractions, as well as other surfaces that are easily touched such as railings. There will be additional training for Cast Members as well.

There are two things that I take out of this announcement. First, Disney knows what it will take to keep things clean and sanitized, and they have a plan. Second, when things happen, they could happen quickly. I think that this is good news for us here in the U.S., as well as Disney fans in China.
