Getting Back to Reality

Flying home was hard!

One of the hardest parts of any vacation is returning home and trying to get back to reality. I returned home less than 48 hours ago from California. While I was there I got to spend a couple of days at Disneyland, and I experienced Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge! How am I supposed to go back to “normal” after that? I know that I live near Walt Disney World, but I still need to get back into my routine. There is laundry that needs to be done, dinner that needs to be cooked, and of course articles that need to be written about my experiences. Even though I live in paradise that does not mean that I don’t have a “normal”.

I spent a good part of the plane ride home looking at the pictures on my phone. I really like Disneyland, because it’s familiar, but different. Officially this was a work trip for me, since I was covering the Galaxy’s Edge opening. It’s amazing to me how quickly the time went.

One thing that is always hard when trying to get back to reality is the fatigue. It doesn’t matter if you went to Disneyland or Walt Disney World, day after day in the theme parks is tiring! Getting up for rope drop, staying as late as possible, and walking literally miles each day can wear anyone out. Needing a vacation after a vacation is a common joke after visiting Disney.

Something that often helps me when I’m sad about a trip being over is to think about the next one. The worst for me was when my family and I went on our hosted cruise back in January. I was on the Disney Cruise Line website on my phone on the way home, trying to plan another one! That still hasn’t happened yet, but we do have something that we are seriously talking about. For me, looking ahead makes looking back a little bit easier.

Another thing that helps is to look at life in general. I’ve been very blessed. I have a wonderful family, work that I truly enjoy, my health, and I live in a place that I love. We may not be rich financially, but we’re rich in many other ways.

As hard as it is to get back to reality, it’s something that needs to be done. That laundry is calling, and dinner is not going to cook itself. While I’m taking care of those things I’ll think about how much fun it was to visit Batuu, and also think of all of the great things that are to come. This is an incredible time to be a Disney fan. I’m glad that we’re on this journey together.
