What Are Minnie Vans?

Minnie Vans are cute and convenient

Walt Disney World offers free transportation to guests to pretty much everywhere on property. They even will take you to and from Orlando International Airport so that you do not need to rent a car. Without a car, what happens if you need to get somewhere in a hurry? Maybe you’re running late for a dining reservation, or maybe you are too tired to wait for the bus at the end of the night. It could be that you want to go resort hopping, and there is no direct transportation available. Wouldn’t it be nice if there was an alternative that didn’t involve paying the high cost of a cab or getting into a car with someone who has not been screened by Disney? There is! It’s the Minnie Van service. It rolled out (literally) last summer, and the program has become a success. Guests love it for the convenience, and the drivers often get rave reviews.

What exactly are Minnie Vans? They’re hard to miss, you’ll see the red with white polka dot vehicles all over Walt Disney World property. The service is Disney’s answer to ride sharing services such as Uber and Lyft. It’s the same basic principle, except you’ll be driven by a Cast Member with a spotless driving record, you’ll learn some fun tips during your drive, and you’ll listen to your favorite Disney songs as you go.

In order to use a Minnie Van, you’ll need to be staying at a Walt Disney World resort. All resorts are now included. If you haven’t already, once you arrive at your resort, download the Lyft app. Head to your resort’s front desk, and a Cast Member will make sure it’s activated. Then you’re set! You’ll order and pay for your ride through the Lyft app.

Minnie Vans currently only run on Disney property and to the airport, so this isn’t your way to visit Universal Studios for the day. Each van seats up to six passengers, and there are two car seats available. Each trip is charged based on length, and you can use the service from 6:30am until 12:30am. There are vans available that are equipped to transport wheelchairs and scooters, but those may require more time.

Overall, Minnie Vans are a convenience that many guests have already fallen in love with. If you want to skip the line for the bus or the boat, or you want to go somewhere that your resort does not offer direct transportation to, this could be the solution.
