In July, 2017, it was announced at the D23 Expo in Anaheim, CA that many changes are coming to Walt Disney World. One announcement that immediately got a lot of buzz had to do with a ride based on Guardians of the Galaxy. Here is what we know so far.

Guardians of the Galaxy is coming to Epcot

Many people feared that Tower of Terror at Disney’s Hollywood Studios was going to receive a Guardians of the Galaxy remake similar to the one at Disneyland Resort, but that is not what is going to happen. The Guardians of the Galaxy ride is going to be at Epcot. It will be in Future World, where Ellen’s Energy Adventure used to be. That ride closed in August, 2017, to make room for the new attraction. The building that housed Ellen’s Energy Adventure is not being demolished for the Guardians of the Galaxy ride.

Since the initial announcement a couple more details have been released. We have learned that it is going to be a roller coaster. Not only that, it will be one of the longest enclosed roller coasters in the world. According to Disney Parks Blog, it will also be a “family attraction”. The “wow” factor has been promised, and there will be a story that goes along with the ride.

The Guardians of the Galaxy coaster is slated to be open by the time that Walt Disney World celebrates it’s 50th Anniversary in 2021. No closer opening date has even been hinted at. It is just one of several attractions that have been promised for the Golden Anniversary. I’ll pass along more information here as soon as it’s available.
